Whirlwind and Wonderful Visit

Whirlwind and Wonderful Visit

Last week I had my long-awaited opportunity to visit my newly minted 3-year old Jeremy back in California. After Jason and I moved to Alabama at the end of July, Jeremy stayed behind to spend 2 1/2 months with his dad before joining us in our new home from mid-October through New Years Eve. The parenting plan that my ex-husband and I came up with included a provision for the parent that Jeremy isn’t living with can visit him for at least three days during the time that Jeremy’s with the other parent. My ex and I have come a long way since we first broke up and we’re making things work for Jeremy’s benefit. In one day we worked out a fantastic bi-coastal co-parenting plan to include shared homeschooling when he’s of school age.   Anyhow, I’ve taken a nearly two-week break from blogging because I was spending a really wonderful birthday week with my little boy and then, visiting family and friends, flying home to Alabama with Jason’s great uncle Frank, and getting my house back in order after a week away. Well, I’m back and ready to share some clips from my treasured few days with...

My little boy turns 3 today

My little boy turns 3 today

Three years ago at 3:02 pm, my firstborn came into the world. I will remember that day forever just as vividly as when it happened, but for everyone who wasn’t there and cares to read, I chronicled the whole experience in a very long entry in my old journal: September 11, 2006.   And, in a small celebration of my little man making it a full three years, I am reposting a cute little list of “stuff boys do”. I originally put this in my old journal when Jeremy was almost six months old (Thank Heaven For Little Boys), now I’m going to bold the few items that he has managed to complete in his short three years. I can only shudder to think how many of these things he will have accomplished in the next three years. You find out interesting things when you have sons, like .. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite. A 3-year old Boy’s voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant. If...

Visiting California

September 10, 2009

I cannot hardly wait for my trip to California to visit Jeremy, family, and friends. My plane leaves Mobile at 6:40 am this Saturday and after I spend a wonderful busy week with my loved ones in California, I return home to Alabama at 5:15 pm the following Saturday. Having laid that out, I’ve got a lot of travel prep to do tomorrow: Laundry Pack Clean out the fridge of the leftovers that no one’s going to eat while I’m gone. Print out my travel itinerary. Charge up my cell phone and make sure it’s filled up with minutes. Charge up my camera and pack the charger. Start my next crochet project so I don’t have to “ch 304″ in a cramped airplane. Oh yeah, and we need to go to my second prenatal appointment. My new OB said he likes to do lots of ultrasounds, and this is the first appointment where the baby is developed enough to have a heartbeat and big enough that we can actually see body structures. Hopefully the doctor will do an ultrasound so that we can see and hear those things for the first time. At my first appointment a little over...

Our new routine

September 2, 2009

Not long ago Jason volunteered for the night shift (4 pm – midnight) so that he would be home during the days with me and wouldn’t have to miss any prenatal visits. My first one was on his first day of work, so he obviously couldn’t get the time off, and he was really disappointed to have missed it. The usual span of time for a person to be on a night or graveyard shift is six months but he can volunteer to be on longer if he wants. The plan is for Jason to stay on nights until I have the baby, then he’ll get ten days of paternity time off, then he’ll go back to work and request to be put back on days as soon as a spot becomes available. As I mentioned in my “get it out to clear my head” rant yesterday, my car decided to freak out yesterday. The AAA tow truck showed up over 2 hours late this afternoon and couldn’t take my car to the mechanic before the service center closed, so my car is still sitting in my driveway. This creates a problem for us. Jason drives his truck to...

Rant Rant RANT!!!

September 1, 2009

My last couple of days haven’t been all that great. Actually, I can’t say it that way, it’s been the last week but off-and-on, culminating in today. When we left California, we still had about a year left on our DirecTV contract. Upon moving to Alabama, we hooked it back up and switched from the $75/month premium plan to the $29/month family plan to finish out our contract. We got AT&T for our land line and DSL internet. AT&T owns DirecTV, so we were able to get a good deal on a bundle. However, the phone had annoying static and Jason had horrible issues with the internet. While he was playing World of Warcraft he’d get kicked offline every 15 minutes or so. During the day while he was at work, I’d have to reboot our router every few hours because it would randomly lose connection with AT&T. Jason called Mediacom and found out that they would pay up to $300 to buy us out of our DirecTV contract if we switched over to their cable TV; also, their internet promised to be much faster than AT&T could provide. We happily switched our TV, internet, and phone over to...

Menu Plan, month of September

September 1, 2009

This is my first shot at planning a full month of dinners. I picked a good month for it because I’ll be out of town visiting my family for a week and will be leaving Jason and his mom to their own devices. I never plan breakfast, we’re all grazers in the morning and are happy with a bowl of cereal. With Jason having switched from the day shift to nights, we’ll be switching our main meal of the day from evening to lunch time so that he can have a good filling meal with the family before heading off for work at 3 pm. Here are our September lunch plans: Tuesday, 1st: Tuna salad sandwiches, chips & dip, & fruit. Wednesday, 2nd: Monterey Chicken. Thursday, 3rd: Pot Roast with carrots and potatoes. Friday, 4th: Chicken & gravy with corn and Rice-a-Roni. Saturday, 5th: Shake & Bake pork chops with crash potatoes. Sunday, 6th: Orange Chicken with Veggie Fried Rice. Monday, 7th: Spaghetti with garlic breadsticks. Tuesday, 8th: Pork Roast with mashed potatoes and applesauce. Wednesday, 9th: Chicken Noodle Soup Thursday, 10th: Tacos and green salad. Friday, 11th: Roast turkey breast with baked potatoes and skillet fried corn (the way...
